Weekly News from Polkadot & Kusama #77
1. Polkadot’s Robert Habermeier discusses the future of Web3 at Consensus 2023 panel with Chainlink’s Sergey Nazarov
Polkadot had a successful Consensus 2023 with 20+ ecosystem projects showcased and partnerships announced.
Polkadot founder Robert Habermeier joined the founders of other leading blockchain protocols such as Sergey Nazarov from Chainlink on the main stage at Consensus 2023 to discuss the challenges of scaling the technology to accommodate more users and transactions, solving real-world problems, and more.
2. Polkadot’s Frequency parachain partners with social app Mewe to bring full data control to its 20 million users
Polkadot’s Frequency parachain has teamed up with social app Mewe, which boasts over 20 million users, to enable users to connect with Polkadot while retaining control of their data. The partnership will allow each user to have a social identity with complete data control, in line with Mewe’s decentralized and democratized ethos.
Jeffrey Edell, chairman and CEO of Mewe stated at Consensus 2023: “We’re truly decentralized, putting the power and governance in the hands of the people where it should be — democratization.”
3. Frequency blockchain integrates KILT’s decentralized identity infrastructure for a user-centric Web3 experience on Polkadot
In addition to the Mewe partnership, Frequency is integrating KILT’s censorship-resistant identity infrastructure for users of decentralized social networks. KILT’s decentralized identifiers (DIDs) allow users to own and control their digital identity and data, making it possible to restore personal data control to the individual. The integration will be enabled through the Cross-Consensus Message Format (XCM) between the parachains in the Polkadot ecosystem, allowing for authentication with KILT DIDs on Frequency.
4. Mythical Games to launch new Mythos ecosystem on Polkadot, partnering with NFL for latest game: NFL Rivals
Mythical Games, the #1 gaming blockchain, is migrating its Mythical Chain to Polkadot from Ethereum to launch its new Mythos ecosystem. This will allow Mythos gaming partners to create their own chains and the most connected gaming ecosystem in Web3. Scytale Digital invested $20M in Mythical Games to facilitate this migration.
Mythical also partnered with the NFL to launch NFL Rivals, a blockchain game. The migration enables Mythical Chain to build on a more secure and interoperable infrastructure, without sacrificing connectivity or accessibility to all Mythos partners and comply with Web2 gaming platforms.
Mark Cachia, Founder and CIO of Scytale Digital, said: “In choosing Polkadot, Mythical Games now has a solid foundation of innovative and top-performing tech to lean on and will be able to focus on what it’s great at — games. We are confident that Polkadot will deliver on its promise to be the most advanced and versatile blockchain platform which is why Scytale is proud to be a valued partner in this deal.”
“We look forward to onboarding additional AAA gaming companies and gamers to the Mythos ecosystem, bringing Polkadot one step closer to becoming the global leader in next-generation gaming.” stated CEO of Parity, Björn Wagner
5. Quartz Network has won the 79th parachain auction on Kusama
Quartz has won the 79th parachain auction on Kusama by self-funding 140 KSM worth ~4.2k USD. Quartz was leading the auction 98% of the time, so this auction was without any surprises. Quartz already had won auctions #14 and #53 in the past.
Quartz, Unique Network’s canary network, enables radical NFT innovation and development for the next generation of users. Built on Substrate, it offers a user-friendly platform with advanced tools for dApps, games, and marketplaces, including Flexible Economic Models and Nested NFTs.
Quartz is ideal for building simple, feature-rich, and platform-agnostic NFT marketplaces, and requires no blockchain expertise or large budget. Quartz allows users to interact with NFT marketplaces without worrying about network congestion, scalability, or high transaction fees.
6. Composable Finance launches first Polkadot-Kusama connection via Cosmos IBC, enabling DOT/KSM swaps
Composable Finance launches first-ever Polkadot <> Kusama connection via Cosmos IBC, enabling DOT/KSM swaps on the Picasso Network’s Pablo DEX. Visit Pablo DEX to explore the three new liquidity pools this connection created, namely:
- KSM / DOT
- PICA / DOT
- DOT / USDT
Composable plans to continue working to ensure interoperability between all DeFi ecosystems. Additionally, Centauri introduces the first trustless and non-custodial bridge connection between Polkadot and Kusama networks for seamless cross-ecosystem transfers.
7. Astar Network and Injective Protocol integration enables direct connections between Cosmos and Polkadot ecosystems for multichain future
Astar Network and Injective are directly integrated, enabling Polkadot and Cosmos IBC asset bridging. Celer Bridge facilitated this, allowing developers to create inter-chain dApps.
Astar users can leverage Injective’s protocols, while Injective users can bridge assets to Polkadot via Astar Network, providing more options and strengthening both ecosystems’ relationships.
8. Energy Web integrates Sign In With Ethereum authentication into the IAM stack for improved security and user experience
Energy Web has integrated Sign In With Ethereum (SIWE) authentication into its enterprise identity and access management (IAM) solution, Switchboard, enabling users to log into any web application using their Ethereum address and private key.
The SIWE implementation offers increased security and a more feature-rich login experience, as well as the ability to initiate and resume sessions across time and log into multiple services with a single set of credentials. The integration is currently available in the Switchboard dev environment and will be released in production Switchboard in early May 2023.
9. Crust receives ecosystem airdrop from Arbitrum and distributes rewards to community members who contributed to the platform
Arbitrum has awarded the Decentralized Cloud Foundation of Crust with an ecosystem airdrop, which will be distributed among community members who have contributed to the project.
The distribution will adhere to the rules, and participants can claim their rewards via Galxe between April 29 and May 6, 2023.
10. Michigan Blockchain proposes deploying Uniswap v3 on Moonbeam with Wormhole’s cross-chain messaging
Michigan Blockchain has proposed deploying Uniswap v3 on Moonbeam, Polkadot’s EVM-compatible parachain, potentially gaining market share in the broader ecosystem.
The proposal, which updates both Polkadot and Moonbeam, was first passed in 2022, but due to the hack of the Nomad bridge, Nomad never began v3 contract deployment on Moonbeam. For this new proposal, Wormhole is involved in facilitating cross-chain messaging for the Uniswap deployment on Moonbeam.
