Weekly news from Kusama&Polkadot #16
1. Centrifuge secured parachain slot on Polkadot
Centrifuge recently won the 8th parachain auction on Polkadot. From 15 293 contributors in the crowdloan were raised over 5,4 mil. DOT worth nearly 100 mil USD.
Centrifuge is an open blockchain PoS protocol built on Substrate that focuses on real-world assets. Those can be invoices or real estate, that are later converted into NFTs (non-fungible tokens). Simply put — Centrifuge helps to convert corporate assets into liquid money.
Centrifuge is a real gateway between the physical world of finances together with cryptocurrency space, especially DeFi (decentralized finances) and NFTs (non-fungible tokens). By doing so, Centrifuge turns the world economy into a more decentralized and open market.
2. Litmus won another auction on Kusama
Litmus succeeded in the 23rd parachain auction on Kusama by raising 10,8k KSM. Litmus is a canary network to Litentry with a similar goal, but for the Kusama ecosystem.
Litentry itself is a Decentralized Identity Aggregation protocol across multiple blockchains. One of their main features is a DID indexing mechanism and a Substrate-based credit computation network.
Litentry simply provides a secure way for users to manage their own identities and dApps obtain the real-time credit or reputation of an identity owner across various blockchains.
3. Polkadot in the sponsorship race for FC Barcelona
According to several sources such as cryptopotato, bitcoinist or dailymail, Polkadot is in talks to become a new sponsor of FC Barcelona. Together with VeganNation and Spotify, they should replace Rakuten and Beko, which are present sponsors of FC Barcelona Football Club, because their contracts will expire within the next 6 months.
Due to those rumors, Polkadot seems to target as being the secondary sponsor having their logo on sleeves and training kits, while the new main sponsor seems to be Spotify, which will have its own logo on the most lucrative space of the kit — the chest.
One of the actual partners of FC Barcelona is also Chiliz, which is an official fan token partner of the club. Polkadot seems to be another crypto-related project in the FCB focus, while another new potential sponsor VeganNation is also related to crypto by having their own GreenCoin (GRNC) digital token.
Polkadot is simply following the way of the most known centralized exchanges FTX, Crypto.com and Binance, which are heading into the sponsorship marketing of various sports. But Polkadot could be the first one in this field with a decentralized governance structure. And one of the TOP 10 cryptocurrencies according to the CoinMarketCap.
Imagine the future where major blockchains sponsor the biggest sports teams on the planet. Polkadot sponsoring FC Barcelona might be such a big step for the crypto industry!
4. Acala is live with token transfers enabled
Acala is the historically first winner of the parachain auction on Polkadot with over 32M DOT contributed by over 81,000 community members. Last week Acala went live which means also enabled the ACA token transfers.
Acala is the project with the most expectations in the Polkadot ecosystem. The reason is that Acala is a true DeFi Hub of Polkadot, which brings its own DEX, liquid staking solution and algorithmic stablecoin aUSD.
