Polkadot Governance News #24 NOV24: Polkadot Ambassador Fellowship Advisory Board Forms

--

Welcome to another edition of Polkadot Governance News. Like every month, there is still a lot to watch.

Cohort 3 of the Decentralized Voices programme has been appointed and is already voting thanks to the delegation from Web3 Foundation. We at Polkadotters didn't apply independently but as a part of the newly structured Permanence DAO, but unfortunately, we didn't get the delegation in this cohort. However, we will continue to work on OpenGov and hopefully we will get in within the next cohort.

To showcase our interest in OpenGov, this time in the Community Spotlight we host one of the co-members of the Permanence DAO, Christian Casini from PolkaBiz.

1. Referenda Digest

1. Polkadot Referenda 1305: [Retroactive]Treasury Proposal- Mimir 2.0 — Multisig Optimization And Proxy

  • Mimir 2.0 is an enhanced multisig product for asset management and governance in the Polkadot ecosystem.
  • It includes features like 1/N multisig, batch transactions, staking, and proxy accounts.
  • Requested amount: 134,500 USDT

Polkadotters Opinion: Mimir is a good app, we like the innovative features like proxy account management, batch transactions, and flexible multisig solutions. Making Polkadot and it's parachains more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly is something that deserves to be supported. AYE.

2. Polkadot Referenda 1287: Polkadot Ambassador Fellowship: Initial Funding Request and Validation of the Advisory Board

  • The Polkadot Ambassador Fellowship is starting an interim phase.
  • The main goals are to create an Advisory Board (9/13 members multisig) and get initial funding.
  • 40,000 USDT will go to the Ambassador Fellowship Treasury for monthly expenses, 600,000 USDT will be used for monthly allocations during the interim phase.
  • Requested amount: 640k USDT

Polkadotters Opinion: This proposal’s structured approach and experienced advisory board show great potential for ecosystem growth, although the high up-front costs raise concerns about sustainability; it still deserves an AYE vote.

3. Polkadot Referenda 1278: Meetups Bounty #43 top-up & changes

  • Meetups Bounty focuses now on small meetups in different places.
  • These meetups help people learn about Polkadot and make new friends.
  • The new reward for meetup organizers and curators is in play with more clear reports open to everyone.
  • You can find more information about their plans on their Notion page, Twitter, Subsquare, and Telegram.
  • Requested amount: 63k DOT

Polkadotters Opinion: The team behind this bounty is effective and supportive, the curators have proven their worth. The idea of having small meetups all around the world is helping to spread the community. AYE.

2. Community Spotlight

In the Community Spotlight, we focus on key members of the Polkadot ecosystem commenting on recent referenda.

In this edition, we are joined by Christian Casini. Christian is one of the founders of PolkaBiz, a business accelerator that helps new Polkadot founders develop the necessary business skills to find product market fit.

PolkaBiz is one of the members of the Permanence DAO, which also includes Polkadotters.

Let’s have a look at Christian’s opinion on the ref. 1315, Creation of an AssetDIDcomm System with AssetDID Credential Verification.

Christian Casini: “One key benefit of the proposal is that it introduces a secure and decentralized system for communication and data management tied to digital assets. This system addresses critical issues such as privacy, security, and data integrity throughout an asset’s lifecycle. This can reduce the risks of data breaches, manipulation, and accountability gaps.

Being accepted in the FCA sandbox also means that Xcavate has the potential to show regulators the benefits blockchain technology can bring. AYE.”

3. Polkadot Forum View

1. The Cardano X Polkadot thing: uniFires 2.0

uniFires 2.0 aims to strengthen collaboration between Cardano and Polkadot ecosystems through knowledge sharing, workshops, and builder networking.

Launched in 2024 after an initial experiment, the group of ambassadors and builders focuses on governance, open-source integration, and community engagement. Their next steps include adapting their Cardano proposal for Polkadot’s OpenGov, expanding workshops, and enhancing collaboration between ecosystem stakeholders. Key achievements include governance studies, validator collaborations, and hosting sessions to share insights and foster adoption across both blockchain communities.

2. How To Make Polkadot Great Again?

ZouYang proposes strategies to accelerate Polkadot’s growth by enhancing DOT demand and addressing inflation. Key ideas include:

  • directly burning 80% of gas fees,
  • leveraging treasury funds for ecosystem airdrops, and
  • utilizing high-demand projects like DOTA to increase activity and burn rates.

Infrastructure advancements like Plaza and JAM will support smart contracts and drive DOT use. Combined, these measures aim to reduce inflation from 8% to 5%, potentially leading to a deflationary phase and increased DOT value.

4. Meme Time

During this weekend, bitcoin almost hit 100k & DOT was for a while at +10$. Crazy times…

  • Support our Polkadotters 🦐 Shrimp, 🐙 Octopus & 🐬 Dolphin validators on Polkadot and be a part of a more secure Web3 future
  • Enhance Polkadot’s governance process by delegating your DOT or KSM to POLKADOTTERS, dedicated community supporters within the Polkadot ecosystem, enabling seamless participation in on-chain governance through Nova wallet or Polkadot Delegation Dashboard
